Why did you choose copper as a medium?
Copper Art Designs started as a way for the founder of the company to revitalize the brilliant blues and greens of the Caribbean Sea and its island landscapes—the places he grew up in and embraced as a life long home. He wanted to create art for his home in Virginia Beach that invoked the feel of the rich tropical environments from his past and needed a medium that would not only give him great color and texture, but that could also withstand the trials of outdoor exposure. Copper accomplished all of this. Later, as the younger members joined Copper Art Designs, the new generation developed a large appreciation for the metal's history in the art world, as well its unexplored potential as a medium in modern art.

Will the art fade?
The designs are etched down into the copper and won't rub off or disappear, it is only their colors and textures that will vary. This process is not predictable and depends greatly on the environment where the piece is displayed, as well as the finish on the piece (dye, patina, wax, etc.). If the copper is kept indoors it is likely that you will see little change over the years; perhaps some small variations. If the copper is kept outdoors it is likely the artwork will change appearance at a more noticeable pace. The dyed and waxed products will not easily change but may experience mild shifts in hues or tones over time. If your piece has a patina applied then the chemicals will continue to react with the copper, developing the colors and texture at a slow pace. Be aware when handling your piece that oils in your hands may also react to the copper. The natural patina in copper generally forms in five to seven years if left untreated by chemicals.

Can I download images from this site?
We appreciate your inquiry, however, no images may be downloaded for any commercial or personal uses without expressed written permission of Copper Art Designs. All images on this site are copyright protected.

Can the invitation be made a different size?
Possibly, but this is uncommon as it alters the original invitation and usually requires extra design time therefore increasing the cost of the invitation.

How long will it take to get my custom copper artwork?
Typically orders can be completed, at the most, in two weeks from the day the final design is approved by you. However, there are times where high demand may delay orders by a few weeks. If delays exist, we will promptly notify you immediately after receiving your order.

Are there limitations to what can be etched in copper?
We are limited only by our imagination. If you are looking for something unusual or maybe you are unsure if a custom request is feasible, please contact us and we will work with you on possible solutions to whatever you might have in mind.

Do you make all of the pieces yourself?
Yes. Every piece of copper art is individually handcrafted, made in Virginia Beach, Virginia, U.S.A. The members of Copper Art Designs are educated and trained in all aspects of designing, creating, and finishing the copper art and take pride in their work. By creating every piece by hand, we are able to give each its own unique character and ensure the quality of the craftsmanship.

Is copper the only medium you work with?
Our artists have many talents beyond the medium of copper. We have experience with printmaking, oil pastel murals, photography, and graphic design.
